Jennifer + Damian : Benachi House Wedding in New Orleans, LA – Part ONE

September 3, 2016 by Jensey 1 Comment

This girl.

Jennifer is unlike any friend I have ever had. The best player on our middle school soccer team, salutatorian of our high school graduating class of over 600 students. Today, she’s a gorgeous, a real-life scientist who is actually changing the world, and the kindest soul I’ve ever met. She’s also incredibly humble, so her friends and family have to brag on her behalf.

When Jennifer and I graduated, she was off to Tulane and shortly after, I moved to Florida to start my Disney adventure. And for the past 14 years, we’ve kept in touch through letters.

Not emails, not phone calls, but letters. This girl knows my family dramas, juicy details behind some of our craziest weddings, and most importantly, which words I will never, ever learn how to spell. ;)

Friends, meet one of my favorite people in the world, Jennifer, whom I lovingly nicknamed “Jensim.”

Jennifer married the luckiest man in the world who knows he’s the luckiest and that just makes me love him more. This is the only man who can keep up with her wit, challenge her intellect, and make her happier than I’ve ever, ever seen. Their wedding comes off the heels of some of the most difficult times in their lives, and it was so wonderful to see them so happy, surrounded by people who appreciate how special these two are.

Their wedding took place at this magical New Orleans location, the Benachi House. We were looking forward to shooting at this venue since Jennifer first sent us the link, and it was a wedding photographer’s dream. I could have shot there for hooouuurs and still not hit every photo spot I wanted! :)

And then there was Barkley. <3

I love Huck. I feel like I need to preface my ode to Barkley with that. But Nate and I have never, ever left a dog so smitten after first meeting. I love Barkley because he’s calm, happy, fluffy, incredibly warm and friendly… He’s basically Jennifer. <3 I cannot think of a more perfect dog for my sweet friend!!

I normally say which photos are favorites, but there are waaaaay too many with this wedding, but this one’s way up there!! :)

Of every person I met on Jennifer and Damian’s wedding day, Kanako was the one I was most excited to meet. She was Jennifer’s roommate and best friend at Tulane, and for the past 14 years of Jensim writing about Kanako’s life, her wedding, her adorable daughter, opening her dream store in New Orleans (Kawaii Nola– GO THERE!)… Well, I’d never met someone for the first time and felt like I knew her so well!! It’s a beautiful thing meeting someone who means so much to someone who means so much to you and seeing how much they love that someone you love! Does that make sense?! :) Kanako was the perfect maid of honor!

I think this was the moment Barkley genuinely thought he was marrying Jennifer! :)

Did I Mention We’re Gonna be Parents?

July 8, 2016 by Jensey 2 Comments

So. We had a pretty big announcement on my personal blog recently…

We are going to be PARENTS. Like real, grown-up, go-to-your-room, Root party of THREE, I’ll-pull-this-car-over-so-help-me PARENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ROO_7285

There needs to be a word with more meaning than “thrilled” or “excited,” because neither of those touch the butterflies in our stomach feeling we have every time we think about our upcoming adoption.

Some of you might have already heard this news since we’ve let our upcoming wedding couples know that we have back up plans and back up plans for our back up plans. (And to all of you who wrote back with gushing support, thank you so, so much!) The only major difference coming to Root Photography once our little one arrives is that most likely, Nate will be shooting all family or engagement sessions on his own. We’ve been preparing for this with him taking the lead role on our shoots this year, and I’ve purposefully only blogged HIS photos from our family sessions since last October!

I am currently planning on still going to every wedding (after a mini maternity leave!) We’ve wanted to be parents for too long and have lined up our business in such a way that I’ve never felt more prepared for the challenge of raising a child while working from home. I know it won’t be easy, I’m sure I’ll crack up reading this post in the future, but right now, I feel as confident as I can with such a wonderful, unknown situation on the horizon. I have to keep reminding myself that every working momma has to have the same fears I have when having a baby, and our couples so far have been so ridiculously supportive.

If you’re moved to help in any way, the second half of my blog post lists the many ways we’d appreciate it. More than anything, session and wedding referrals mean the world to us. I’m sure Baby Root will be happy to travel the country for weddings. =P

Root Photography truly was our first child, and I’m excited to bring our “second” home and watch them play nicely! ;)

Hallpants + Henrybear : Port Orleans Riverside Family Session

April 13, 2016 by Jensey 2 Comments

Ohhhh, these two bugs. If you’ve ever poked around this blog or my personal one, JenseyLoves, you’ve surely seen our cute nephews’ faces! If you’re new around here, meet “Hallpants“ and “Henry Bear,“ the sons of our best friends Nick and Jessie!

Disney Port Orleans Riverside Family Session 01

We are never without a camera when we’re spending time with this crew, but we hadn’t done an official “session” since Henry was a newborn. Shame on us!! We took them to Port Orleans Riverside before heading to play at the Magic Kingdom and photographed almost all of their session in this *one* pathway with amaaaaazing light.

My faaaaaaaaaavorite. <3

It was so hot out and these gentlemen were such good sports!

I can’t believe it’s been 13 years since Nick and I became friends while working at Dumbo in the Magic Kingdom! Who ever knew that cute boy at work would some day be one of my dearest friends and give me the two sweetest nephews I could imagine!

Disney Port Orleans Riverside Family Session 06

Jessie is the sweetest momma I know. She’s my Kate Middleton and I look up to her in every way possible. <3

Why do we call him “Hallpants?” I don’t know! Ever since Jessie was pregnant and knew they were having a son and naming him “Hall,” it’s sort of the only thing Nate and I have ever referred to him as! They’ve morphed it into “Hallman,” but he’ll always be Hallpants to meeeee!

Henry maaaaaaybe cut the shoot a bit short with this little move (Poor Jessie!) I love Hall’s face here, like, “Well, now you’ve done it, Henry!” Jessie, Nick, Hallpants, and Henry, we love y’all more than you know. Until next time! <3
