Kellie + Derek : Dixon Art Gallery Wedding in Memphis, Tennessee

This is our second fall now not living in Tennessee, but our first year not taking a trip back to see the leaves change! It’s hard to plan a yearly trip now since fall is our busiest time of the year, but I’m so thankful we were able to make it back last year for Kellie and Derek’s wedding. This wedding was a favorite of last year, not just because of the gorgeous leaves and the abundance of stunning details all thought up by this creative bride, but also because I’ve known Kellie since I was a senior in high school and she was a freshman. :)

In high school, I took French 1-3, but senior year I decided to take Spanish 1 just for kicks. I was the only senior in a class of freshman, but the girls I met in that class made it one of my favorite classes I ever took! This is now the second wedding we’ve photographed with a bride that was in that Spanish 1 class with me, and we’ll be photographing our 3rd this December. So crazy and so incredibly wonderful!! This was our second wedding at the Dixon Art Gallery in Memphis and I’m still swooning over this location.

Kellie, I wish we could repeat your gorgeous wedding every week. Thank you so much for bringing me home. :)

This dresser greeted their guests and held the programs for the wedding- How cool is that? Also, Kellie designed and made her own letterpress invitations and programs.

Virginia + Lindsey : Downtown Memphis Wedding

I’m embarrassed to admit the actual number of weddings we photographed in our home state when we were Tennessee residents, but the ones we did shoot, we loved so much! :) Virginia and Lindsey were our last TN couple, and we shot their wedding right after deciding it was time to move back home to Florida but before we put our home up for sale. It was a scary time not knowing if we’d be able to sell the house, whether it would sell quickly or we’d be there for months and months, where exactly we’d live when we move back to Florida, if it was possible to fit everything in a moving van, if friends in Tennessee would forgive us for moving or Florida friends would still want to see us, etc. etc.

When we moved to Tennessee, my number 1 wedding bucket list hope was to photograph at the Peabody Hotel. It is the most special place in downtown Memphis to me, and where I spent every Thanksgiving growing up. My family would get all gussied up and go to the fancy Thanksgiving Day brunch, hang out with the ducks, get a photo in front of the giant Christmas tree, and then head home to decorate our own. It’s such a special place and it was an absolute dream to finally be able to shoot there. :)

One of Virginia’s bridesmaids had temporary tattoos made of their dog Nigel. :)

Bridesmaid photos on the Peabody rooftop? Dream come true moment for me! :)

I loooooove when couples exchange gifts during the first look! :)

Oh yeah- One of her bridesmaids was Hailey from Ready for Love. :)

Virginia and Lindsey were married in Memphis’s gorgeous Calvary Episcopal Church.

Their reception continued at the Center for Southern Folklore in downtown Memphis!

Nigel totally made an appearance at the wedding!!!

Kellie + Derek : Dixon Gallery & Gardens Wedding in Memphis, Tennessee Preview

This is my first Floridian fall in 5 years, and luckily, I’ve been taking it better than I thought I would. Yes, I get a lump in my throat at the mere glimpse of the intro to Gilmore Girls, but I’m not huddled in a corner crying about missing my leaves, you know? That being said, I’ve been counting down the days to Kellie’s Memphis wedding since the day we sold our home! It came at the perfect time, and Nate and I got to see the last wave of colored leaves during our visit before heading home to the land of palm trees.

Kellie and I bonded in our Spanish I class – I was the nerdy, Disney-obsessed senior who chose Spanish I over sitting in a study hall, and Kellie was the cool freshman. I was so surprised when she contacted us to photograph her wedding and excited to catch up with my favorite chica, who now teaches at our alma mater. How crazy is life?!

Auuuuuutuuuuuuuumn! <3
