Nicole and Michael : Orlando Anniversary Session

It’s hard to believe a year has passed since what was maybe our favorite wedding of 2016!

It’s also hard to believe how vastly different this December is for us. When we photographed Nicole and Michael’s wedding day, our hearts were shattered after a long, drawn out failed adoption. We put on our best smiles and were happy to photograph their day- It was a true welcome distraction. December is my favorite month of the year, but I just sort of went through the motions last year, taking time to heal.

This year we have the happiest, most chatty 7 month old you ever did see. I’m crying every day this year, too, but for purely happy reasons : The first meeting with Santa, first Candlelight Processional, first Christmas Party, first solid poop… Don’t worry, future Ollie, I’m only kidding. That happened *last* month. ;)

Anyway, Nate and I were completely ecstatic when Nicole and Michael asked us to document their first big milestone- Their first anniversary! Nate photographed them around their wedding venue, reminiscing about their wedding day. On special “Root Lifer” shoots like this, Ollie and I like to hang around the hotel on a Momma/Son date and meet up to say hello at the end. :)

Nicole and Michael brought Ollie a gift bag of presents that made me cry. My favorite? Remember Nicole’s wedding gift to Michael, this custom adventure book?

Welllllllll let’s just say Ollie is the luckiest son of a wedding photographer ever and has his own custom book, complete with his naaaaaaame on the froooooooont!!!!!! Nicole and Michael, we love you more than I can say. I can’t wait for next year, but dinner after next time!!!!!!!! <3

The L Family : Root Photography Holiday Mini Session!

Seeing as it’s already DECEMBER, I’m determined to blog all of the precious holiday mini sessions that Nate shot! :)

The biggest work change for us since Ollie arrived has been that I stepped away from photographing sessions. It’s helping me find the sweet spot in being a work-from-home mom, and Nate going off to sessions gives me precious one on one date time with my little muppet. The downside of this, of course, is that I miss out on seeing a lot of faces I love, and sometimes I get a little jealous of the time Nate gets to hang out with them!! But stepping back from sessions was a non negotiable for me- I knew we could get family or a trusted sitter for our ~25 weddings a year, but I wasn’t ready to leave him for our ~50 portrait sessions on top of that. Nate has been an absolute champ and not only stepped up to the plate to take over shooting these, but has really stepped up his game!

We knew this was our parenting plan when we started our adoption process, so for the past two years, every portrait session photo I’ve blogged or Instagrammed has been taken by Nate. Because he is amazing. <3

The L family was a sad one for me to miss, but it was also a good reminder that you know, these guys live in town and we don’t have to hang out with them behind a camera to see them! I’m really hoping Beckett and Ollie become best buddies, seeing as they’re a whole two weeks apart! I will never forget photographing his newborn session and stepping out to text Oliver’s birth mother, who was in the early stages of labor. Beckett is so special to us and he doesn’t even know! :)

Annnnnyway, Nate was able to meet up with these guys in downtown Winter Garden for his ~6 month holiday family mini session. They all dressed so, so well and look like they belong in a Hallmark Christmas movie!!

The H Family : Cypress Grove Lilly Pulitzer Family Session in Orlando, Florida

Once upon a time, I had all my social media outlets running like clockwork. Two Instagram posts a day (sometimes even on our Disney account!), a Root Photography FB page post a day, and 2-3 blog posts a week. Ah, those were the days.

I scheduled out as long as I was permitted, which ended up being about 6 months of content! The month before we became parents I was on TOP of my game. And then we had a baby.

Imagine my shock when I very quickly realized that I’d run out of pre-scheduled posts! WHAT! Ever since, I’ve been doing my best to chug along, but failing miserably. It turns out being a full-time mom and full time photographer during busy season is no joke! I made it a point to stay on top of editing as best I could, which means I’ve had to pick a few things to fall by the way side. Like blogging! :/

So this week I shared our most recent wedding (knowing it’ll be a while until those guys get the rest of their gallery), so today I thought I’d share my oldest backlog family session! We photographed these guys before Ollie came into the world, and it was the perfect spring-y, Lilly Pulitzer-y shoot! And it made me *very* excited about potentially having a son, who little did we know would arrive a month later!! :)
