Cooking Class Fun

July 18, 2013 by Jensey 3 Comments

If you’re a loyal blog reader, the names Lisa and Jeffrey should ring a bell. They’re our very best friends who also happen to be in the wedding “industry” (I always cringe at saying that, but I don’t know what else to call it!) Oh, and we also photographed their elopement in Central Park. Annnnnd we spend Thanksgiving together. Remember now? Good.

Lisa is one of those friends who you’re sort of always waiting to someday get her own reality show. Gorgeous? Yeeeeep. Master of her field? Have you seen the weddings she’s designed?! Beautiful family? As beautiful inside as out, and her girls adore the heck out of their momma! To top it all off, Lisa’s also an amazing cook, and is always taking photos of Barefoot Contessa-quality meals she’s made for her family that if I hadn’t seen her make in person, I’d swear she was just taking photos of cookbooks every night and passing them off as her own. Lisa is also a wonderful gift giver, and for Christmas last year, she and Jeffrey gifted their families a cooking class. Cute, right? Everyone also got their own personalized chef hat! :)

Where do we come in? Well lucky for us, their cooking class at Truffles and Trifles had two spots open and we happened to be in town for some weddings. Even though it’s way out of our comfort zone (I have exactly 3 recipes I feel confident enough to make for guests, and still manage to bomb making pancakes), we were excited to participate, if just to meet their sweet family members we’ve heard so much about.

At the beginning of the class, Nate and I clung to Jeffrey and Lisa like five year olds on the first day of kindergarten, thinking we’d be put in the same group. Wrong! We went through a line and were numbered off 1, 2, 3, and 4, so we were all put in separate groups. This ended up being a wonderful thing, not only because I was able to get to know their sweet mommas, but I was put with Lisa’s prodigy, Sara, so I was sort of able to cheat my way through the evening.

Yeah. I’m not so “home” in the kitchen!

Nate TOTALLY did this.

See? Oh, and since we were invited last minute Lisa wasn’t able to find us chef hats, so we’re sorta wearing personalized fezes instead. ;)

Lisa + Jeffrey : Elopement Part II

March 21, 2012 by Jensey 1 Comment

I’m often asked by friends why I think eloping is so special. I think to me, we see many weddings that in the commotion and stress of the day, well… Sometimes the focus gets a little lost. I feel like when you break a wedding day down to just the vows and the couple pledging to love each other for ever and ever- I think that’s the truest, purest, most beautiful form of love. I can’t think of anything more romantic than running off to get married. This isn’t to say I don’t like weddings and I think everyone should elope- it’s not for everyone. But I think if you feel it in your gut, or you feel like your wedding is a runaway train, or you’re going through with it just for your families, well… Follow your heart. Elopements are magical.

When planning our own wedding, I knew in my heart that if I could have it any way I wanted… I just wanted me and him. Him and me. I didn’t want the party, I didn’t want the drama. I didn’t want seating charts and venue contracts and a bridal party. I just wanted us. Ever since our wedding, we’ve found that eloping is more common than I thought- Especially with those in the wedding industry. ;) With Lisa of E-Events and Jeffrey of Stoner Video, well… I honestly can’t imagine their wedding day any other way. I know it was one of the best days of my life, and it wasn’t even my wedding! ;)

Let’s start with my favorite from the whole day, shall we?

I want to clone her. That is all. :)

Now, this is a gorgeous family.

Silly girlies. :)

I’m telling you- Jeffrey is more like Nate than any man I’ve ever met. :)

FAVORITE. I can have two, right?

Lisa had the same bouquet as my Lorie– They both went through Fantasy Floral Designs. Lisa had friends give her brooches, pins, and trinkets so they could be with her in spirit. She even had mementos like her Disney name tag, a wine cork from a special date, and a pin of John Lennon and Yoko Ono put in.

Ok, a third favorite.

Channeling Audrey and nailing it.

Silly sisters. <3

Nate’s favorite!

I know I haven’t mentioned yet, but it was March in New York, so the weather was freezing! We were all anxious to get off our feet and into some heat! Lisa and Jeffrey graciously invited us to partake in their “reception dinner” at none other than Junior’s in Times Square. We found out afterward that it also happens to be the diner where Carrie and Big ate with the girls after their elopement in NYC.  <3 Best. Reception. EVER!

And at the end of the night, we saw Spiderman getting a coffee to go. :) Up next, our mini-NYC vacation!
