Lorie + Jon : Recap

December 15, 2010 by Jensey 6 Comments

On most television shows, either before each episode or before the season finale or season premiere, there’s a “Previously on _____” part. Oh, come on, you know what I’m talking about!

Anyway, before I post the “season finale” of Lorie and Jon, “The One Where They Get Married” (Friends, anyone?), I find it necessary to start with:

Previously on the Root Photography Blog…

Lorie and I met and fell in love when we were babies! Seriously- This feels like it was a million years ago. :)

Before we knew it, these two guys plopped into our lives, and so began the 4 Musketeers! We’ve all had had our share of adventures, major life moments, and holidays together (like our Thanksgiving 2008 jowling photo, shown below).

We went to Paris, France together and made them do a portrait session with us. :)

We also visited Disneyland Paris!

Last fall, Lorie and I planned a surprise vacation to Tennessee with our boys…

… When unbeknown-st to Lorie, I’d been scheming with Jon to help him plan his proposal on the same trip! :)

This year, we had front row seats to watch Lorie graduate!

Then we all went on our biggest adventure yet… No, not our trip to Africa…

…But Lorie and Jon’s wedding there!

Woohoo! Tomorrow on the blog, our best friends’ wedding in Tanaza-freakin-nia, Africa! :)

Laurie + David : Engagement

October 18, 2010 by Jensey 3 Comments

We were so excited when we met Laurie and David about their upcoming wedding and heard they were from Chicago- Lucky for us, we were able to photograph their engagement session while we were there to photograph Rebecca and Matias’ wedding. :)

This first one may be my favorite:

Laurie has the biggest smile when David’s around. :)

We finished up around Navy Pier. :)

Laurie and David, thank you for everything! Happy wedding planning! :)

Christy + Mike : Engagement

September 28, 2010 by Jensey 12 Comments

When Christy and Mike met, the stars were aligned perfectly to put them in the right place at the right time: Christy’s car was in the shop, so she jumped on the shuttle to get to class that Mike always took. She made eye contact with Mike and was immediately intrigued by his “black eye-liner, pink eye shadow, hot pink razor phone and iPod shuffle, lip ring, and chin-length black hair.” She kinda put him out of her head since he was so far away, but as he stood up to get off at her stop, Mike complimented Christy on her eye-make up. The rest of the story involves her running through a parking lot to bump into him again, and then happily finding out he was indeed, straight. :)  I love that part the most, because when I first met Nate, I thought he was possibly gay, too. (A single, straight, attractive photographer who was paying me attention? Comeon!)

My favorite part about Christy and Mike’s story of how they met is that Mike had a girl friend named SiQi (pronounced See Kay), and Christy’s initials are “CK.” Christy’s boyfriend at the time was David, and Mike’s nickname is Davey. As Christy says, “So, that’s why we say that the universe was sending us signals. We just got them a little crossed. That is, until October 31, 2007 at 3:45 pm!”

When it came time to do their engagement session, Christy knew she wanted their photos taken around St. Augustine. But after finding out about their mutual love of Calvin and Hobbes (my all time favorite comic- a love I have thanks to my late grandfather), it was quickly decided to try to work in some iconic Calvin and Hobbes moments into their shoot. Now, if you know anything about Calvin and Hobbes, you know it’s a comic strip about a young boy and his stuffed tiger, Hobbes. Not exactly a grown man and woman in love. ;) I did my homework, though, and showed up with some of the more well known moments from Calvin and Hobbes on my iPhone to hopefully inspire us along the shoot. :)

Intermixed with Christy and Mike’s engagement photos, I’ve thrown in my favorite quotes from Calvin and Hobbes (masterfully written and illustrated by one of my heroes, Bill Watterson!)

“If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I’ll bet they’d live a lot differently.”

“Hobbes: ‘Do you think there’s a God?’ Calvin: ‘Well, SOMEBODY’S out to get me.’”

“It seems like once people grow up, they have no idea what’s cool.”

Inspiration photo #1:

“There is not enough time to do all the nothing we want to do.”

“Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.”

(Photo taken by us, masterfully edited by one of Christy and Mike’s friends!)

“Know what’s weird? Day by day, nothing seems to change. But pretty soon, everything’s different.”

Inspiration photo #3:

Inspiration photo #4:

“You know, Hobbes, some days even my lucky rocket ship underpants don’t help.”

I love, love, love, love my husband. :)

“If your knees aren’t green by the end of the day, you ought to seriously re-examine your life.”

“I think we dream so we don’t have to be apart so long. If we’re in each other’s dreams, we can play together all night.” – Bill Watterson

Well, *I* think we did a pretty good job capturing the essence of all Christy, Mike, Calvin, and Hobbes… What do you think? :)
