Disneyland Paris : Travel

July 11, 2010 by Jensey 19 Comments

Welcome to the last chapter of our Paris Chronicles! ;) Just incase you missed the previous posts:

The Roots do Paris Part 1

The Roots do Paris Part 2

A lovely Paris engagement session with our best friends!

The Roots do Tennessee (Just incase you were interested in that, too!)

Though I’d been to Disneyland Paris in the past, it was long before they opened the Walt Disney Studios park! On our first day, I was dying to get inside and see what it was like. :) The park is really different- You walk through this main building with a couple shops and a quick-service food place to get to the rest of the park.

I think the reason I love going to other parks (well, just Disneyland and Disneyland Paris, I suppose) is that it all feels like a dream. I know Walt Disney World like the back of my hand, and I love learning new lands and seeing how even though so much is the same, it’s all just a little off. Like the Partners statue being in a different park, or Sorcerer Mickey’s hat being so tiny!

Me new favorite quote. <3

I love their Sleeping Beauty Castle! I think it’s so much prettier than Cinderella Castle, though I admit it may just be one of those ‘grass is greener on the other side,’ things.

The best thing about it is the huge breathing dragon found in the dungeon. :)

The Queen of Hearts isn’t sweaty here, just wet from rain. So gross!

We were excited to be “painting the roses red,” ok?!

I wasn’t buying Jack Sparrow. :/

The biggest waste of money, ever… Their Blue Lagoon restaurant! It was such a horrible experience- The food was terrible, it took us over an hour just to get our drinks, and to top it all off, the service lights on Pirates of the Caribbean turned on, killing the only thing this place had going for it- The atmosphere!

My favorite, Phantom Manor. <3

So pretty!

Nate and I came back again just before our trip was over.

I will say I was bummed with their shops. I’m pretty much the easiest guest ever when it comes to Disney merchandise because I wanna buy everything, but I think the only thing I came away with for myself from DLP were coffee mugs. (Well, hot chocolate mugs, here in the Root home!)

I know that Disneyland Paris often gets a bad rap, and I dunno, I kinda love it. I think it’s so unique and even though it’s much simpler than all the other parks, I think there’s something really sweet about it. I love going to hang out more than do stuff. While I wouldn’t make a trip to Paris just for Disneyland Paris, I wouldn’t ever take a trip to Paris and not go. Does that make sense?

I’ve also heard people complain about the cast members. I’ve always found them to be just fine, but you have to remember the cast members are French! I’ve never had a problem with the French being rude to me, I think it’s because I try really hard to speak to them in French first, breaking out my high school French! Once they saw me struggle for a few minutes, butchering their language and miming out what I could, they’d always jump in and answer my question in English. :) So I think just like here in America, so much of their attitude reflects your attitude. If you’re getting frustrated and yelling at them in English, they’ll do the same back to you! *Gets off soap box.*

Whew! So there you have it, folks, our trip to Paris! Don’t be bummed it’s over- Make sure you come back next week for a preview of the fun we had in AFRICA! :)

Erin + Rick : Engagement

June 8, 2010 by Jensey 5 Comments

We photographed these cuties around Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge during their vacation here. :)

Yes, Erin is pretty much the cutest thing ever. :)

I love these two:

I love Rick’s dimples!

Still my favorite. :)

We’re so excited for your wedding next April! :)

Amanda + Eric : Wedding

May 21, 2010 by Jensey 30 Comments

Amanda contacted us pretty last-minute to shoot her wedding day, and I’m so very happy she did. :)  Amanda and I actually have a lot in common- A mutual love of stationery, we both did the Walt Disney World College Program… After friending her on Facebook, I even found out I was even friends with one of her wedding guests!

Amanda got ready at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort, and I knew it was gonna be a great day when I saw her adorable wedding dress. :)

I loooooved the custom hangar! This is such a cute idea, because sometimes we’re stuck photographing this gorgeous gown on one of those dry-cleaner type hangars. If you’re interested in ordering one for yourself, click here to go to the Etsy page where Amanda got hers! (Pst- Lorie, you need one of these!!)

Eric wasn’t too keen on the first look idea at first, but has this to say now about the experience: “The First Look wasn’t something I wanted at first but am so glad we did. I would recommend that to anyone!! That special moment alone with my Bride was amazing. I was worried about not having ‘that’ moment when she came down the aisle, but I was so excited and we both cried the entire way down the aisle.” (Thank you, Disney Wedding Blog!)

Don’t they just look like best friends? I think they just fit each other perfectly! Amanda’s maid of honor is actually a wedding photographer up north. :)

One of my new favorite things is telling our more playful brides to twirl their dress. :)

FAVORITE. Amanda, you look timeless, elegant, and gorgeous!

One question I feel we get often is “Do you Photoshop the Castle to appear much larger than it actually is in the window of the Wedding Pavilion?” Heeeeeck, no! You see, when you stand up at the altar, the Castle is actually pretty tiny. Much more like the photo on the left to the naked eye. However, when we shoot it with our 70-200mm lens at 200mm, we’re able to compress the shot in such a way that we can see the Castle much larger. That’s also why when we’re shooting an engagement session at the Polynesian or the Grand Floridian, if our couples want a shot with Cinderella Castle in the background, we’ll shoot with the 70-200mm lens, as well. Does that make sense? Y’all should know by now we’re not crazy Photoshoppers. ;)

Amanda’s brother married them. :) In my opinion, that’s the best way to go! (Then again, we were married by our best friend, so I’m a bit biased!)

I love this series from the “kiss and cry” part of the day. :)

So, the one thing I didn’t mention yet in this post was how freaking COLD it was!! Their wedding was in March, during that freak cold streak we had. I felt terrible for them, but Amanda was amazing and never once complained about the weather. Amanda broke out this cute fur for a few shots… It actually belonged to her great grandmother, who Amanda now shares the same initials with. How cute is that? :)

Cute and completely un-prompted. :)

These two were so stinkin’ in love… Our favorite kind of couple! :)

You know I had to do my signature shot… ;)

Unfortunately since we’re not able to shoot events inside the four Walt Disney World parks, we weren’t able to capture the fun that went down at their reception. But lucky for them, their bff is a wedding photographer! ;) Amanda and Eric, you guys were so much fun to get to know! Keep in touch, and we hope to see you again! :)
