So. We had a pretty big announcement on my personal blog recently…
We are going to be PARENTS. Like real, grown-up, go-to-your-room, Root party of THREE, I’ll-pull-this-car-over-so-help-me PARENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There needs to be a word with more meaning than “thrilled” or “excited,” because neither of those touch the butterflies in our stomach feeling we have every time we think about our upcoming adoption.
Some of you might have already heard this news since we’ve let our upcoming wedding couples know that we have back up plans and back up plans for our back up plans. (And to all of you who wrote back with gushing support, thank you so, so much!) The only major difference coming to Root Photography once our little one arrives is that most likely, Nate will be shooting all family or engagement sessions on his own. We’ve been preparing for this with him taking the lead role on our shoots this year, and I’ve purposefully only blogged HIS photos from our family sessions since last October!
I am currently planning on still going to every wedding (after a mini maternity leave!) We’ve wanted to be parents for too long and have lined up our business in such a way that I’ve never felt more prepared for the challenge of raising a child while working from home. I know it won’t be easy, I’m sure I’ll crack up reading this post in the future, but right now, I feel as confident as I can with such a wonderful, unknown situation on the horizon. I have to keep reminding myself that every working momma has to have the same fears I have when having a baby, and our couples so far have been so ridiculously supportive.
If you’re moved to help in any way, the second half of my blog post lists the many ways we’d appreciate it. More than anything, session and wedding referrals mean the world to us. I’m sure Baby Root will be happy to travel the country for weddings. =P
Root Photography truly was our first child, and I’m excited to bring our “second” home and watch them play nicely! ;)

Wahoo! As an adoptee and an adopting parent myself, I’m happy you guys are taking this route (and glad to chat if you want an adoptees pov!).
