My dad and I aren’t close.

I don’t call him when I have a really good day or when I need a shoulder to lean on. He occasionally forgets a birthday and doesn’t call once a week… Or once a month, for that matter. I’ve only seen him a handful of times in the past couple of years.

But the truth is, I’m more like my dad than any other member of my family. :) I used to think people said I looked like my dad because of my rather, uh, un-mom like build (she’s a 5’2″ marathon runner), but as I get older, I see so much more of myself in his face- Especially photos of him when he was my age. I no longer take offense. :) I won’t say my dad is a workaholic, but he loves to work. Growing up, he was a fighter pilot for the Marines and flew for Fedex, so time off was rare. This was tough as a kid, but as an adult, I can appreciate it. One reason why I have such a hard time picturing starting a family is because of our sometimes 70+ hour work weeks. But like Dad, I really love to work. I can sit at my desk editing photos for 12+ hours a day and be perfectly happy knowing I’m doing a job that I love.

He’s such a good person. Dad’s honest- sometimes too honest, but I always know he won’t feed me a line of bs. He curses, has a wicked sense of humor, and constantly amazes me with his skills on the grill and in the kitchen. He loves Seinfeld and the Beatles. My first concert was seeing Sir Paul McCartney. Dad ended up getting called in to work and my two year old sister took his place- And proceeded to sleep through the whole thing! Dad is a loyal friend to the end- His best friends have been just that almost all of his life. With the exception of the cooking part, I’ve inherited pretty much all of the above. And I have his blue eyes.

While he doesn’t necessarily know my favorite tv show or where Nate and I went on our honeymoon, he does know my heart and what kind of person I am. Which in the end, I suppose is all that really matters anyway.

I’d like to wish an extra happy Father’s Day to my dad, my awesome dad-in-law, and my brother, Charlie, who’s a dad-to-be. Oh, and Nicholas, who is celebrating his first Father’s Day this year with my adorable nephew Hall. :)

Kristen + Rob : Wedding Part II

June 14, 2012 by Jensey 4 Comments

Continued from Kristen and Rob’s Wedding Part I.

I know they say it’s good luck if it rains on your wedding day, but I’m gonna just throw it out here that a random Carrot Top sighting on your wedding day must be REALLY good luck. :)

One thing I loved about working with these guys is how much they trusted us. From our vendor suggestion in the beginning to photos on the wedding day, they were amazing about making us feel heard! :)

Favorite! :)

Kristen and Rob’s reception was held at the Winter Park Farmer’s Market. I couldn’t believe in 6+ years of doing this business, this was our first Winter Park Farmer’s Market wedding! Lucky for us, Tracy Marini of Eventfully Yours was on hand to make the evening a success. And by that I mean she brought us juice boxes… Again. :)

The set up at the Farmer’s Market was absolutely gorgeous. This venue is sooooo dark, so their added lighting made all the difference!

Kristen and Rob’s first dance was one of those sneaky slow-dance-turned-fast-dance dances.

Rob’s dance with his mom was just another one of those sneaky slow-dance-turned-flash-mob dances.

Yes, I said FLASH MOB!

I have to add in here that our pal Maria Shafer did an amazing job keeping the dance floor packed! If you’re looking for a dj for your big day, check out Maria’s site and tell her we sent you! :) My only complaint working with Maria is she makes me wanna stop working and dance!

Last dance love!

Kristen and Rob, thank y’all for everything!!!! Let us know when you’re back in Nashville! :)

Kristen + Rob : Wedding Part I

June 13, 2012 by Jensey 6 Comments

It was just your average girl meets boy story : Kristen saw Rob in her one-armed-bass-player-friend’s YouTube video and she thought he was totally cute and subscribed to Rob’s channel. It didn’t take long before Rob saw Kristen was from Orlando and shot her a message about how much he loved Disney, and the rest was history. But you know, we hear that one all the time. *Yawn!*

We’ve been looking forward to Kristen and Rob’s wedding since our first meeting with them in Nashville a year and a half ago. We all clicked so well and shared a love for Arrested Development- What more could a photographer ask for? :)

We began their wedding day in Kristen’s parents’ home. :)

Usually one of the first things we do the morning of a wedding is meet the bridesmaids and family members in the room. We loved that Rob’s sister needed no introduction! :)

I loved Kristen’s silly cousin. :)

Kristen and Rob were actually sent to us by Rob’s “best lady,” who randomly found us online. Heather, you’re awesome. :)

Kristen and Rob were married at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Winter Park, Florida.

Rob’s sister, Jen, was one of the best vocalists we’ve ever heard at a ceremony!!

“Just married” faces. :)

Their wedding day had over an 80% chance of rain, but it stayed clear until the reception! Their wedding locations were about a 10 minute walk from each other, but Kristen and Rob gave us tons of photo time on the way. :) It was so fun to walk with the bridal party down Park Avenue on a busy Saturday afternoon!

Kristen had her grandmother’s prayer books tied to her bouquet- So sweet. :)

Face snuggling time!

Why don’t all wedding gowns have pockets?! Check back for part two of this wonderful wedding, including a celebrity sighting on Park Avenue! :)
