A few times a year, I tend to find myself in what I like to call, “the-sky-is-falling” mode.
It doesn’t take much- Whether it’s a couple weeks without a wedding inquiry, maybe a month without a booking. Maybe, oh I don’t know, closing on a new home? But occasionally I become completely and utterly convinced that our life as we know it is over, and the bookings are gonna stop. Just like that. That’s the scariest part of being self-employeed- I know we’re good for this year, but that’s about as far out as the headlights allow me to see. I always thought that once we’d been in business ~5 years, I’d start feeling a sense of peace that we’re ok. But 9 years in and I still get as anxious as year 2 whether or not people still want us around.
This is where Nate comes in: he’s always able to read what part of the sky-is-falling spectrum I’m on in any given moment of time. Whether I’m just being unusually quiet in the car or sobbing before bed, he knows exactly what to say and do to make it all better.
I’m just grateful that even though our headlights only go so far, Nathanial’s the one driving the car.
Happy birthday, Bug. I love you more with each second and can’t wait to spend another year holding your hand. :)

You guys better stick around. My step-sister wants you to photograph hers. I tell everyone I know how about absolutely wonderful you guys are, and that you were the best part of my wedding (because you were). We have the most astounding wedding photos I could ever ask for.
I understand sky-is-falling mode. I’m in it nearly every day because I get panicky over everything. i hope you guys continue to do well…because my god, the world would lose two of the sweetest, most talented people ever if you decided to quit. Thank you for your strength and courageousness to “stick with it.” You gave ME the opportunity to have you photograph my wedding. I know there are years of brides to come that would just die to have you do theirs.

Aww Jensey no! If you could only see how people talk about you guys in the communities you’d know there’ll always be demand for you and people who haven’t enquired yet who are excited to do so. For Jess & I, we grade photos on a scale of 0-Roots so we know you’ll be fine.
Oh & Happy Birthday Nate, not only are you brilliant at what you do but that is by far the best Robert DeNiro impression I’ve ever seen from an infant. And if you can be counted on to protect your wife when the sky is falling then you’re clearly winning as a husband too. Here’s to many more years of that!

Sounds just like me and Chris. I’m the worrier, I need to know plans so far ahead of time to feel secure. He is the laid back one whose answer to everything is “it’ll alll work out!” Thank God we both have people like that around to keep is happy!

Happy belated birthday to Nate, and happy birthday to you! For what it’s worth, I still see people asking about you, so you’re still “in demand”. :)
